A spokesman for the US command in Afghanistan, Colonel Rodney Davis, informed journalists during a Thursday briefing at the Bagram base near Kabul that US servicemen had arrested 15 mujaheddin fighters in the central Afghan province of Uruzgan.
The arrest took place after a group of gunmen raided a village near the River Gilmend to the north of the town of Dehrud.
Uruzgan is the home city of the Taliban's spiritual leader, Mullah Omar, who has still not been found.
