Earthquake rocks northern Japan

An &to=' target=_blank>earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 shook northern Japan early Saturday, but there was no danger of a tsunami, the Meteorological Agency said.

The quake occurred at 3:32 a.m. (1732 GMT Friday) and was centered about 50 kilometers (30 miles) below the seabed, off the coast of Miyagi prefecture, about 300 kilometers (180 miles) northeast of Tokyo, the agency said.

Russia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs is seriously concerned about the state of health of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Sergei Skrypal's niece, Victoria Skripal, said that her uncle had already died.
