Violence erupts throughout Iraq

Several violent attacks over the weekend and Monday have left civilians killed and injured in Iraq. Police officers were also effected.

In western Baghdad, a suicide car bomb exploded outside a children's hospital, killing at least two people and wounding 11, including seven policemen.

Police suspect the target was a passing convoy carrying a police colonel, who was among the injured.

The gunmen attacked the convoy of the Deputy Gov. Ziad Tariq, killing three civilians and wounding three of Tariq's bodyguards. Tariq was not injured.

In other violence Monday, gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying university students in central Baghdad, injuring two.

In the south of the capital, 12 gunmen in three cars attacked a police checkpoint with rocket-propelled grenades. Two police and two civilians were injured, AHN reports.


Russia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs is seriously concerned about the state of health of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Sergei Skrypal's niece, Victoria Skripal, said that her uncle had already died.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Michael Calvey, the founder of Baring Vostok investment fund, on allegations of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny Bank. Calvey will be held in custody until April 13
