Tornado in Greensburg, Kansas, claims 10th life as 77-year-old man dies of injuries

The massive tornado that struck the town of Greensburg nearly two weeks ago claimed another life Monday.

Harold Schmidt, 77, a resident of Greensburg, died at Pratt Regional Medical Center of injuries he suffered in the tornado, the hospital said.

Eight other Greensburg residents and a New Mexico man who was in the southwest Kansas town when the tornado struck also were killed.

The same storm system spawned tornadoes May 4 that claimed one life each in the nearby towns of Macksville and Hopewell, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12.
