An explosion was heard in the Christian sector of the Lebanese capital late Sunday.
It was not clear what caused the explosion shortly before midnight (2100GMT), but the major Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. television said the explosion occurred in Ashrafieh, the Christian sector of the Lebanese capital, near a major shopping center.
The explosion came after daylong battles in the northern port city of Tripoli between Lebanese troops and Islamic militants in which 22 soldiers and 17 militants were killed.
