Iraqi Ambassador: Coalition Troops Get Stuck Near Nejaf

Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Abbas Khalaf denies that US and British troops have approached Baghdad.

There is fighting "near the city of Nejaf, 180 kilometres south of Baghdad", he said at a press conference on Friday.

The Ambassador also denied that American troops had occupied the Baghdad International Airport. "Yesterday, the Iraqi information minister organised an excursion for journalists including a visit to the aerodrome," the Ambassador recalled. The Ambassador also said that any information about fighting near the airport as well as about an allegedly discovered underground tunnel under the airdrome was the USA's propaganda.

"There is no need to hurry, everything is yet to come," Abbas Khalaf stressed and pointed out that resistance continued.
