Basra Bombings Suspended for Humanitarian Aid

Basra bombings and air raids have been suspended to deliver humanitarian cargo to the city. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that both the USA and Iraq had allowed humanitarian cargo to go via Basra.

Earlier, the ICRC voiced their wish to deliver humanitarian aid to Basra heavily bombed by the occupation forces for the past two weeks.

Humanitarian situation is worsening in the city and on its outskirts. Local people lack food and fresh water, hospitals are overcrowded with wounded people. Educational facilitates are used as hospitals. Electricity supplies have been cut off.

Reports suggest hundreds of thousands of the Iraqis have come to Basra adding to the local population of 500,000 since the start of the military operation.
