Forces of the Northern Alliance have received an order to begin an assault on Afghanistan's capital Kabul, Qatar's Al Jazeera television network has reported, quoting front commander Tariyalai, whose headquarters is located in the village of Ribat, north of Kabul. The alliance's Ministry of Defence has made a decision to begin an offensive on Kabul, but we need time to prepare for it, Tariyalai said, adding that the assault may begin already on Monday. Meanwhile, various mass media have reported the movement of large forces of the alliance to the front. On Monday, the alliance's advanced units were spotted 25 kilometres north of Kabul. In the morning, U.S. aviation bombed Taliban positions on the front and near Bagram airport. Al Jazeera has reported that the sound of cannonade can already be heard in Kabul.
