On Monday, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder reaffirmed the German government's negative attitude to a possible U.S. war on Iraq.
"Germany will not join a UN Security Council resolution legitimising war," Schroeder said in Berlin before a session of the Social-Democratic Party, whose chairman he is.
The German leader believes that the UN inspectors "worked successfully in Iraq, and the past weeks have proved this." Meanwhile, Greenpeace activists are holding an anti-war rally in front of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin which was fenced off by a concrete barrier after Sep. 11.
They have set a picket with slogans "U.S. is going to fight for oil - help America, give it some oil." Yellow metal barrels are placed near the picket line - for the "donations".
