Terrorist Camp in Northern Iraq Comes Under US Attack

Last night US fighter-bombers based on the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt hit a terrorist camp linked with Al-Qaeda in northern Iraq, F-16 Hornets pilots said in interviews with radio stations.

According to a pilot, the crew were given the target coordinates when the fighters they flew arrived in the region. Three groups, each comprising eight fighters, were involved in the operation. The camp was bombed with satellite guided bombs.

At the start of the military operation, US aviation dropped bombs on the positions of the "Fellows of Islam" Kurdish movement in the north of the country killing 33 people. The movement was accused of Islamic extremism and links to Al-Qaeda.

Northern Iraq is under the control of major Kurdish organisations that clash on occasion; the USA supports some of them.
