From June 1, 2014, GPS stations in Russia will be impossible to use for military purposes. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that the GPS stations were taken under full control of Russia.

"In accordance with instructions of the Government of Russia, the Russian Federal Space Agency in collaboration with the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations, implemented certain measures on June 1, 2014 to exclude the use of information from the global seismographic network stations operating on the signals of GPS system and located in the Russian Federation, for purposes other than those stipulated by existing agreements, including military purposes," officials with the Russian Space Agency said.

Disabling GPS stations in Russia is a response to the difficulties that the Russian GLONASS system comes across when building stations in the United States. The Pentagon and the CIA block the construction of five GLONASS stations that are to be built before 2020.

Deputy Prime Minister said that the work of GPS stations in Russia would be terminated completely from September 1, 2014, should the sides fail to find a mutually acceptable decision in three months.

Earlier, Rogozin said that the GPS stations, the work of which could be discontinued from June 1, were involved in the transmission of seismic information to U.S. authorities.
