Cargo Flow between Kaliningrad, Klaipeda Seaports to Be Distributed by Joint Russian-Lithuanian Managing Company

A joint Russian-Lithuanian managing company is being set up to distribute cargo flow between Kaliningrad and Klaipeda seaports. According to what the Kaliningrad Region's governor, Vladimir Yegorov said during a press conference in Vilnius, the creation of the company is a part of the 2 K joint project for cooperation between the two seaports. This year, there has been a considerable (up to 70%) increase in the cargo turnover at the port of Kaliningrad and the decline of it in Klaipeda. The new company is supposed to eliminate this disproportion.

An agreement as to the creation of the new managing company was reached during meetings between Governor Yegorov; Valdas Adamkus, Lithuania's President; the country's Foreign Minister, Antanas Valionis; and Gediminas Kirkilas, Chairman of Lithuania's parliamentary commission on international affairs. The talks were also attended by Dmitry Rogozin, a Special Representative of Russia's President, and Yuri Zubakov, Russia's Ambassador to Lithuania.

Also discussed there were the ways of the practical fulfillment of the agreements reached during the Russia-European Union summit in Brussels and the issues pertaining to border cooperation.

On November 30, the Russian delegation also attended 'The Building of Extended Europe' conference in Vilnius.
