Representatives of Russia's ancient towns to gather in 1140-year-old Murom

On Saturday the city of Murom (Vladimir region, Central federal district) will celebrate the 1140th anniversary of its foundation. The same date is to be celebrated by Rostov Veliky, Stara Ladoga and Belozersk (Vologda region, Northwest federal district).

The chronology of these cities has been registered since 862, when Rus (Russia) was first mentioned in the Chronicle of Years (an all-Russian chronicle). Representatives of all the celebrating cities are to come to Murom, where the City Day is to be celebrated.

The same day Murom will see a congress of the heads of Russia's oldest cities. 16 representatives are expected. The meeting will discuss issues of preserving the historic legacy and individual looks of Russia's oldest towns.

This February on the initiative of Murom representatives the Council of Russia's oldest cities was established, which comprised heads of 22 cities, Derbent, Kursk, Yaroslavl, Toropets, Uglich and others among them.
