Sochi to mourn for victims of a jet brought down by Ukrainian missile

A mourning ceremony for the passengers of a Tu-154 plane that was brought down by a Ukrainian missile above the Black Sea will be held in Sochi on the evening of October 3, reported the Sochi administration. Families of the victims began gathering in Sochi on Thursday morning. The ceremony and a service for the dead will be held in the international sector of the Sochi seaport.

The plane operated by the Sibir Airlines was flying from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk on October 4, 2001 when it was brought down by an S-200 missile. The missile was fired during shooting practice in a firing range outside Feodosia. The crash killed 78 people, including 6 children.

The Ukrainian side has admitted that the plane was brought down by a Ukrainian missile but refused to pay compensations to the victims of the tragedy.
