Putin congratulates Soviet war veterans

President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation believes that joint efforts alone will enable the international community to cope with modern threats.

"The lessons of the Great Patriotic War teach us to maintain unity and cohesion, while fighting modern threats. Joint efforts on the part of the entire international community are the only way to effectively counter terrorism, discrimination, national and religious intolerance, as well as any attempts to revive man-hating ideas," Vladimir Putin's message of greetings that was sent to the Great Patriotic War's veterans in other countries notes.

"This is our duty before you, victorious heroes," the message, which was circulated by the Kremlin's press service, stresses.

"Dear veterans. Please accept my sincere congratulations on the 60-th anniversary of our victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War," the message goes on to say.

"No matter where you may live today, no matter where you will celebrate this holiday, I know that you will always perceive it as something sacred. And you will always remember the events of those years, your comrades-in-arms, and, of course, the May 1945 victory," the message of greetings notes. "We discuss the courage, fortitude, selflessness, military and labor feats of your generation with profound gratitude. You withstood extremely difficult ordeals, defending the right of the people to freedom. You saved our country and the whole world from Nazism. And we pay our tribute to all those, who secured the future for us and posterity," the message says.
