UN Security Council supports India's position

Indian Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee has enlisted all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to support his position on normalization of relations with Pakistan.

The leaders of all five permanent members of the UN Security Council have confirmed the importance of putting an end to transborder terrorism to create the necessary prerequisites for launching a dialogue with Islamabad, Vajpayee told journalists after his European tour.

During the week-long tour, he had visited Germany, Russia and France, stopping in St. Petersburg to take part in the celebration of its 300th anniversary and in Evian to attend an enlarged session of the G-8 leaders with representatives of developing countries. He had also met with the leaders of Russia, the USA, France, Great Britain, and China.

According to his words, each of the parties welcomed India's peace initiatives to create a favorable atmosphere for a dialogue with Pakistan. However, Vajpayee said, that was just the beginning, and it would still take some time to stop transborder terrorism and launch peace talks.
