Ahmad Kadyrov becomes candidate to post of Chechen President

Ahmad Kadyrov, the head of the incumbent Chechen administration (after the adoption of the Constitution of Chechnya de jure acting president), believes that the main aim of the future President of Chechnya will be to lay a firm foundation for a peaceful life in the republic.

"If we establish a stable peace, the Chechen republic will be developed socially, economically and politically," said Kadyrov after he was registered as a candidate to the post of the President in the Chechen Election Commission on Monday, August 4.

Thus, Ahmad Kadyrov became the tenth official contender for the post of the President in Chechnya. In order to be registered as a candidate, it is necessary to enlist the support of at least 10,800 citizens of Chechnya, that is, two percent of the total number of the constituents. Friday, August 1, was the last day, when the election blocs and political parties could nominate their candidates. The nomination of independent candidates ends on August 20.
