Russian President's Plenipotentiary And DPRK Minister Discuss Timber Industry Co-operation

Plenipotentiary representative to the Russian president in the Far Eastern federal district Konstantin Pulikovsky and North Korean Timber Industry Minister Yi Sang-Mu discussed on Wednesday prospects for the development of co-operation in timber industry. RIA Novosti received this information on Wednesday from Pulikovsky's press secretary Yevgeny Anoshin.

More than 2,000 DPRK citizens are now working in the timber felling sites in the Amur region and in timber companies of the Khabarovsk Territory. In addition, specialists from both countries consider the question of opening the timber processing integrated works in the towns of Ussuriisk (Russia) and Ungi (DPRK).

North Korean workers will clean from timber the bed of the future water reservoir of the Bureya hydroelectric power station, which is now under construction. The number of North Korean workers is also expected to increase in other districts of the Far East.

The Korean minister pointed to the growing possibilities of developing co-operation if plans of building the Transkorean railway are fulfilled.

Summing up the results of this meeting, Pulikovsky stated that "in the mid-term prospect the presence of Korean timber-felling workers in the Russian Far East is advantageous politically and economically for both the DPRK and Russia." The North Korean minister will stay in the Russian Far East for 15 days, Anoshin reported. On Thursday, he will hold talks at the government of the Khabarovsk Territory. He is also going to visit Blagoveshchensk, Tynda and other cities and towns.
