In Russia's Kamchatka region, 33 cases of swine flu, type H1N1, have been revealed. A 44-year-old man died of the disease in the Elizovsky district. Another lethal outcome was registered in the town of Vilyuchinsk, supposedly also because of the flu virus.
Swine flu has been spreading in the Far East since 2009, but doctors have learned to effectively struggle against the disease. Most of the victims asked for medical help when it was too late.
Meanwhile, the Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare
for the Sakhalin Region refuted the reports of numerous cases of swine flu that previously appeared in the media. According to physicians, as many as 21 cases of influenza have been registered in the region. One of them is pandemic, whereas all others are seasonal "B" and H3N2 types.
Officially, only one case of pandemic influenza has been confirmed with a pregnant woman, who came to Sakhalin being already sick from another region of the Russian Federation. At the present time the patient has recovered and is feeling well.
