Larga seal fishery on Kamchatka starts earlier than previously scheduled

This year the Larga (spotted) seal fishery will start on Kamchatka 10 days earlier than previously scheduled.

The issue of revising and changing fishery terms is not new. The reason for doing it is difficult weather conditions (sea swell, strong winds, precipitation, and low temperatures) in which people hunt for seals in the sea and on the shore.

Larga seals scatter along the coast when a massive migration of salmon ends. The number of seals in river estuaries plummets. The aforesaid factors hinder seriously seal fishery, which results in the fact that already small quotas usually granted to kayur hunters, aboriginal inhabitants of Northern Russia, remain unused.
