Ukrainian deputies want to sue President Kuchma

Ukraine's parliament supported the inquiry of the deputies and members of the Antimafia association, which was sent to Ukrainian Prosecutor General Mikhail Potebenko. The deputies asked for the institutution of legal proceedings against the president of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, as well as against ex-minister of the cabinet of ministers, Lobov, and deputy Zvyagilsky.

The deputies asked for criminal proceedings against the mentioned people on the indications of the crime, as provided by section 5 of article 191 of the Ukrainian Constitution: the spending of the large sums of money that was misappropriated and embezzled by means of the abuse of power. The deputies also asked for an investigation into the murders of those people who had information about the crimes. This covers the period of 1929-1993, when Leonid Kuchma was the prime-minister of Ukraine, Zvyagilsky was his first deputy, and Lobov was a minister of Ukraine’s cabinet of ministers.

Furthermore, the deputies asked to set up an investigating group, to conduct a complete and objective investigation, to find out how DM 12 million were embezzled and transferred to foreign accounts of Ukrainian citizens, and to call the guilty people into account.

We do not think that something will work out in this respect, for the Ukrainian parliament of the current convocation has only one session left: five weeks. The regular parliamentary elections will take place in Ukraine on March 31. Maybe those deputies who submitted the inquiry were getting ready for the elections?
