Diplomatic scandal between Argentina and Uruguay

The Uruguayan President Jorge Batlle provoked a major controversy after declaring to the press that the Argentine political class is a “Handful of thieves” and blame on them for being liable on the ruin of the country. “The Argentine crisis is an Argentine problem: they are a handful of thieves; from the first one to the last”. Said, Mr Batlle in respect of the Argentine Public Administration.

Batlle’s declarations were broadcasted by the financial TV network Bloomberg TV in Buenos Aires and took by surprise Argentine Government. Its presidency speaker Mr. Eduardo Amadeo, expressed his concern but anticipated good will to accept excuses from the other side of the Rio de la Plata.

Thursady morning, the Uruguayan President flew to Buenos Aires to apologise President Duhalde for the brusque remarks. Therefore, a common statement is expected as soon as the meeting end.

Notwithstanding, the Argentine public opinion expressed its sympathy on the declarations of Jorge Batlle, as in general agrees with his considerations. The best ranked Argentine politicians enjoys only a 20% support in the pools, toward the next elections programmed, in principle for December this year.
