U.S. attorney in Moscow for talks on Adamov case

A U.S. state attorney heads to Moscow this week to discuss a former Russian atomic energy minister, who was arrested while visiting Switzerland on a U.S. warrant.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday that U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan and a delegation of U.S. prosecutors, tax and FBI officials were meeting with Russian prosecutors.

Buchanan was quoted as telling the newspaper from Moscow that she could not disclose specifics of her discussions.

American authorities suspect Yevgeny Adamov of diverting US$9 million (Ђ7.53 million) in U.S. Energy Department funds intended for boosting Russian nuclear security and diverting them into private projects.

Swiss authorities arrested Adamov on a U.S. warrant in May while he was visiting his daughter in the Swiss capital, Bern. Switzerland decided this week to extradite Adamov to the United States, over Russia's vociferous protests, reports the AP.
