In the course of pre-flight and post-flight air passenger checks 700 abuses of the law related to flight safety have been registered in Russia, Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Chekalin said at a news briefing at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.
According to the official, during that period 51 criminal cases were opened over attempts to take firearms and explosives on board, the Itar-Tass reports. A total of 300 likely terrorist attacks have been prevented.
Russia’s 184 airports have a total of 559 passenger and luggage examination checkpoints. Seven hundred transport police are involved in checks on the daily basis. Since August 2004 transport police have examined over 28 million passengers.
