A powerful cyclone has hit Kamchatka. The Kamchatka interregional territorial directorate of hydrometeorology and monitoring of the environment has said that the deep Pacific cyclone came up to the peninsula at night and is now exerting the strongest influence on the southern regions of Kamchatka. At the present time the wind near Cape Lopatka is reaching 25-28 metres a second. It was recommended that all the ships working near the southern coast of the peninsula hide in safe bays. In the Ust-Bolsheretsky and Yelizovsky districts, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vilyuchinsk the wind has been gaining strength, and according to the weather forecasts, will reach 25-30 metres a second within a few hours. Much wet snow is expected. The roads are covered with ice. During the next 24 hours the cyclone, losing strength, will be moving along the eastern coast to the north.
