Up to 650 poisoned people rushed to Krasnodar territory hospitals

The number of poisoned people rushed to the Krasnodar territory's (southern Russia) hospitals has reached 650. RIA Novosti learnt this from the person on duty in the southern regional centre of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

According to him, no poisoning cases have been registered in other parts of the southern federal district where the Kropotkinsky dairy products were also delivered.

The chief doctor of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Centre Gennady Aidinov said the mass spread of the enteric virus could have been caused by the violation of sanitary and epidemiological regulations at the Kropotkinsky dairy.

In his words, the poisoning resulted from consumption of yogurts, sour cream and cottage cheese products of OAO Kropotkinsky Dairy, produced within the October 31-November 5 period.

At present, the dairy's work has been suspended for special disinfecting measures.

The mass poisoning in the Krasnodar territory has been qualified as highly dangerous. The Krasnodar territory's prosecutor's office has instigated a criminal case pursuant to the article - "violation of sanitary and epidemiological regulations entailing mass infection." Russia's chief public health doctor Gennady Onishchenko said Russia's Health Ministry was controlling the situation with the enteric virus spread in the Krasnodar Territory.

"More medics have been summoned to the area. A set of adequate anti-epidemiological and prophylactic measures is being taken," Gennady Onishchenko emphasised.
