Moscow tunnel to be first in the world to combine automobiles with metro

The first in the world automobile tunnel combined with the metro will be built in Moscow. The Moscow city government's information center told Rosbalt that the united project was developed for Moscow by specialists of Metrogiprotrans and Avtometrotonnel. Building is intended to begin at the end of 2003.

The tunnel stretches under Serebryany Bor. Automobiles will be able to enter the tunnel from Novorizhsky Highway to Marshal Zhukov Prospect, and metro trains will be able to enter from Krilatskoye metro station to Strogino station. In reality, three tunnels will be dug as part of the project. Metro trains will travel along the lower level of the tunnels, and automobiles will travel along the upper tunnels. Metrostroi will construct the transport corridors. The tunnel will be approximately 1.5 kilometers in length. Construction on the tunnel will be completed in 4 years.

Developers say the realization of the project will free-up Rublyovo-Uspenskoye Highway and Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya metro line.
