The fate of Russian Space Agency to be decided in a few weeks

Reform options for Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos will be discussed at the session with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on November 26th, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told reporters, the Voice of Russia said.

"Today, the First Deputy Chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission started working on the final stage of the report. On November 26th there will be a session held at prime minister's office on the results of this work, where I'll be the speaker, and I'll have a consolidated view on what we should do further," said Deputy Premier.

The politician said that the results of work of three expert groups dealing with the reorganization of the Russian Space Agency, were consolidated. The space agency itself, Rogozin said, proposed changes similar to the reorganization of Rosatom, i.e. the reorganization into a state-run corporation.

Deputy Prime Minister stressed out that when developing the final decision, the government will proceed from the preservation of the effective system of governance of the space industry and the creation of civil space industry under tough competition in the world, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

In September, Vladimir Popovkin, the head of Roscosmos, presented the space development plan before 2030 to Medvedev. The plan proposed the establishment of a unified state corporation on the basis of the federal agency, which would include all enterprises in the sector. The concept was sent back for further development after the heads of space industry research institutes and enterprises asked for alternative scenarios for the reform.
