The first round of elections on December 23 did not determine the winner. President of the ALROSA diamond mining company Vyacheslav Shtyrov who won 45.5 per cent of votes in the first round and businessman Fedot Tumusov (17 per cent of votes) will be fighting for the presidential post in the second round. One of the candidates has to just gain a majority of votes for the victory in the second round.
