As a result of breakdowns in heating supply systems there are currently 289 residential buildings (25,140 people) and 41 administrative buildings without heating in 19 different residential areas in 14 different administrative districts across Russia. More than a thousand people are taking part in the rescue operations. This was announced yesterday by the press office of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations.
According to the ministry's press office, the most affected region has been the North-West of Russia: the Komi Republic, Karelia, the Leningrad and Novgorod Regions. In the whole of the North-West region there are 157 residential buildings (23,241 people) and 20 administrative buildings without heating. 555 people are taking part in the rescue operations.
In the Far-East region there are currently 72 residential buildings (797 people) and 10 administrative buildings located in five residential areas in four different administrative districts without heating. In the Privolzhsk-Ural region there are 646 people without heating. In the Central region (Ivanov and Vladimir Regions) 46 residential buildings (456 people) in two residential areas have been left without heating.
In the Leningrad Region it was quite 'warm' yesterday: about -5 degrees Celsius. However, today and on Saturday another wave of cold (between -20 and -35 degrees Celsius) is due to hit the region.
