More than 107,000 murderers are imprisoned in Russia

The number of the people sentenced for heinous crimes is growing in Russia, said First Deputy Head of Russian Penitentiary Administration Valery Kraev in a RIA interview.

More than107,000 people are serving prison term for murder, about 83,000 people are imprisoned for inflicting harm to persons’ health, more than 150,000 are imprisoned for robbery, said Mr. Kraev. 50% of Russian prisoners are recidivists, 30% of the prisoners are younger than 25 years old. On April 1, 2004 there were totally 823,376 prisoners in Russia.
