Acting Moscow Mayor Sobyanin to take office September 12

On the second day after the vote, the Moscow Electoral Committee officially summed up the election results. Acting mayor Sergei Sobyanin has won the first round with 51.37 percent of votes. According to the press service of the Moscow Electoral Committee, the inauguration of the elected mayor will be held on Thursday, September 12.

His runner-up, blogger Alexei Navalny, received 27.24 percent of votes. The third place belongs to Communist Ivan Melnikov (CPRF), with 10.69 percent of the vote. The fourth - Yabloko candidate Sergei Mitrokhin, with 3.51 percent.

Mikhail Degtyarev of the Liberal Democratic Party comes next (2.86 percent) and Nikolai Levichev of Just Russia - 2.79 percent.

Navalny had refused to recognize the results and demanded a second round of the vote.
