8 arrested in Turkey for firing into the moon

An amusing incident has taken place in Turkey. Thousands of people in Africa, Europe, and Asia watched a moon eclipse last night. But only in Turkey 8 people were arrested for doing that. The point is that there is an ancient Turkish tradition to shoot at a disappearing moon. The marksmen could have been far more in number. But religious leaders had previously tried to instruct their people to pray during the eclipse, not to fire. 8 shots did not heed the advice and were arrested by the police came in at the sound of shooting, the rifles of the ancient tradition’s adherents being confiscated.
