Moscow Prosecutor hopes to create antiterrorism department

The Prosecutor's Office in Moscow has proposed the creation of an antiterrorism department in the capital.

In Moscow it is necessary to create the anti-terrorist department, "which could stop terrorist attacks even in the preparation stage," said Anatoli Zuyev, a Moscow attorney and board member of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.

The number of terrorist attacks in Moscow grew from two in 2002 to six in 2003. The number of false reports about terrorism and arson also increased, he noted.

In 2003 there were 2,731 terrorism related crimes booked in Moscow, the attorney said. According to the data of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office, in the past year there were 2,725 false reports of terrorism.
