Rescuer who evacuated passengers from subway will be awarded

The rescuer who organized the evacuation of passengers from the Moscow subway after the February 6 terrorist act will be put forward by heads of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for a government award.

"Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Kavunov who was in the third car of the subway train during the terrorist act (the explosion hit the second car) started rescuing and helping people at once. In addition, he properly organized the evacuation of passengers before the main rescuing teams arrived," the information department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti.

Kavunov is a department head at a Moscow emergencies center.
