Russia launches supplies of military choppers to Afghanistan

Russia started to supply military transport helicopters Mi-17V- 5 to Afghanistan, a spokespeople for the Russian delegation at Singapore International Air Show 2014 said.

The Afghan side has already received three choppers.

Russian defense export giant Rosoboronexport and the U.S. government signed a new agreement last year for the delivery of an additional batch of 30 Mi-17V-5 in 2014 to Afghanistan.

Last year, Russia delivered 12 Mi-17V-5 to the country. For the time being, the total of 36 Russian helicopters of this type have been delivered to Afghanistan through US ground troops.

The basic contract for the supply of 21 helicopters was signed between Rosoboronexport and the U.S. government on May 26, 2011. The contract had been executed by the middle of 2012 .

Russia and the United States conduct projects to supply military transport helicopters to Afghanistan as part of joint efforts to combat international terrorism.
