“I am proud of my doings”

This is the way to protest against the puppet regime of the Serbian democratic opposition. Former Serbian Interior Minister Vlajko Stojiljkovic shot himself outside the Yugoslav parliament on Thursday. It occurred in several hours after adoption of a law on co-operation with the Hague Tribunal, that allows to hand Yugoslavs war crime suspects over to the Tribunal. Attorney of Stojilkovic says it is a true reason of the suicide.

Reuters reports, Stojilkovic spoke to one of the Serbian Social party deputies before he put a bullet through his temple. Vlajko Stojiljkovic was taken to a hospital in Belgrade, but hopes for survival are insignificant. Doctors are taking every efforts to save his life.

Vlajko Stojiljkovic left a suicide note, that says: “I am proud of my doings.” He wanted to “become one of the heroes who died to protect the native land from criminals.” The note says, Kostunica, Djindjic and their puppet regime are guilty of Stojiljkovic’s death. The Former Interior Minister accuses the people of “treason and capitulation”, “gross violation of the Constitution”. “In collusion with Javier Solana, the bitterest enemy of the country”, the marionette regime “destroyed Yugoslavia”. B-92, Belgrade broadcasting station reports, Vlajko Stojiljkovic gave the suicide note to member of the Serbian radical party Alexander Vucic. The attorney of the former interior minister says, the note had been started in June of 2001, but completed just several days ago.

Radio Jugoslavija reports, followers of the Serbian Socialist Party and Serbian Radical Party organized a protest meeting in the center of Belgrade and attempted to block the parliament building as soon as information about Stojiljkovic suicide appeared. Police prevented breaking into the parliament building. Serbian Socialist Party Secretary General Zoran Andjelkovic called upon the protesters to stay near the Skupstine building for the whole night together with the party leadership.

Yugoslav President Voislav Kostunica said in a televised address, the action of Stojiljkovic “was a warning to the Yugoslav political community and to the whole of the world.”

Kostunica said, those international emissaries who exert excessive pressure on Belgrade and Yugoslavian parliament were guilty of Stojiljkovic death. The parliament was to have passed a law on co-operation with the Tribunal “much earlier” and “on their free will”, not “under the pressure.” He also said, most parties in power are to pay for what they had done, but should not have done. Those who are guilty of today’s situation, are to pay for it.

The main thing Kostunica mentioned was that “it was necessary to define at least a minimum range of national concerns and further to defend common positions.”
