Berezovsky election plans are void

The intention of Boris Berezovsky and his supporters to run the parliamentary election within the Liberal Russia party ballot is void, chairman of Russia's Central Electoral Commission Alexander Veshnyakov said Friday.

"The situation here is absolutely evident," Veshnyakov said. He explained that the Justice Ministry had provided the commission with a list of parties entitled to take part in the election. "It includes a Liberal Russia which is part of the New Course - Automobile Russia (Viktor Pokhmelkin's) bloc." "As for the other Liberal Russia, headed by Berezovsky, it is at litigation with the Justice Ministry over the name." Berezovsky, who was recently granted the refugee status in the UK said that his Liberal Russia would stand for the election independently, and the businessman would top the party's federal list.
