Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee will round off their talks by signing a declaration on global challenges and threats to international security and stability. The visiting prime minister has said this at extended talks in Moscow.

The declaration reflects Moscow and New Delhi's commitment to a multi-polar world order and a tolerant and pluralistic society, said the Indian premier. The document also emphasises the importance of the two countries' strategic partnership and efforts against the challenges and threats to global security and stability.

Russia and India both have a geopolitical interest in a peaceful and stable Asia, which would be relieved of outward pressure and would not harbour and suffer from extremists, said Mr Vajpayee.

He expressed concern over the current developments in Afghanistan and the possible return of the Taleban. The global community must express support for the political and economic reforms in Afghanistan, he said.

Mr Vajpayee said Russia and India must do their best so that international community's efforts in Afghanistan were not futile.
