Heavy snowfalls in south of Karelia

Irregular for October heavy snowfalls are observed in the south of Karelia (republic in Russia's northwest). The cyclone grappled the republic capital Petrozavodsk and two southern districts, engineer-synoptic of Karelian Gosmet meteorology center Yelena Ishkina said on Tuesday.

The thickness of the snow cover reaches 22 centimetres and the average daily temperature is 3 degrees lower than the norm. In the streets of the city road machinery can not clear heaps of snow in time, which leads to numerous road accidents.

Russia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs is seriously concerned about the state of health of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Sergei Skrypal's niece, Victoria Skripal, said that her uncle had already died.
