Fifteen persons already run for Chechen presidency

Aslambek Aslakhanov, a deputy of the Russian State Duma, has become the fifteen contender for the post of the head of the Chechen republic. On Wednesday he sent the package of all the necessary documents to the election commission of that Russian republic.

According to the law, up to August 20, the new contender has to enlist the support of two percent of the constituents, that is, to collect at least 11,000 signatures. And only after that the contender will become a registered candidate.

Apart from Aslakhanov, fourteen other people, including the current head of the republic, Ahmad Kadyrov, contend for the post of the Chechen president. The presidential elections in Chechnya have been scheduled for October 5.
