Construction of Unique Sports Complex Gets under Way in Moscow

Construction is under way of a unique sports complex in the Strogino district of Moscow on the bank of the Moskva River. As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the Moscow government committee for sport and physical education, the complex will include a football pitch, race tracks, and a stadium for up to 500 spectators. Next to it there will be an ice stadium for the Olympic training school under the leadership of Elena Chaikovskaya, an honoured Russian figure skating trainer. The ice stadium will also include two swimming pools for adults and children. There will also be two tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, a gym and roller-skating lanes. The complex is expected to be opened in the summer of 2003. The artificial covering on the football pitch and race tracks will mean that more training will be possible and city, national and international competitions may be held.

The construction of the complex has been approved by Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov. The City-XXI Century company invests in the construction project.
