Ticks attack Stavropol territory

Two people have died on the Stavropol territory, North Caucasus after contracting hemorrhagic fever from ticks, Tatiana Korobova, the deputy Health Minister of the local government, reported on Friday.

According to her words, 200 people have already been hospitalized with suspected hemorrhagic fever. In all, about 4,500 people have sought medical help after being bitten by ticks since the beginning of the year.

The territory has never yet seen such a large amount of ticks. But that is not all -- according to Korobova, the number of ticks is bound to grow towards the end of June.

The dangerous insect has occupied fields under grain-crops, including those under winter wheat. The latter fact makes ticks all the more dangerous for people, because the harvest-time begins in about two weeks' time.
