The military of the CIS countries hold the view that the Nizhni Tagil exhibition of arms is extremely important and must retain its international status. Chief of staff of the Collective Armed Forces of the CIS Countries Vladimir Yakovlev stated this on behalf of the seven military delegations from the former Soviet Union Republics that visited the RUSSIAN EXPO ARMS exhibition.
As officials of the information department of the government of the Sverdlovsk Region said on Monday, Vladimir Yakovlev noted at a meeting with governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Eduard Rossel that the armies of the CIS countries are fitted out with military hardware of the former Soviet Union or that which is produced in Russia now. The Nizhni Tagil exhibition shows brand-new designs by the Russian defence industry.
Vladimir Yakovlev noted that in the future, parallel with the rise of the economy in the CIS countries which is the case already now, the armies of the Commonwealth countries will buy first of all Russian arms.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
