Jewish Cultural Centre Opens In Moscow - 15 November, 2001

A Jewish cultural centre is to open in one of the most beautiful residences in Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street on Thursday. The centre was founded with the support of the US Jewish Joint distributive committee. "The Jewish people have always made a major contribution in the development of the Russian culture, in the variety of Moscow's cultural life. The centre opening in Nikitskaya street will be the place where everyone will be able to get acquainted with the best samples of the Jewish and world culture," Marina Smelyanskaya, the art director of the centre, told RIA Novosti. According to Smelyanskaya, the centre will host concerts, performances and art exhibitions. The centre will comprise a library, clubs and studios of different trends - children's cartoon studio, a youth jazz club, a literary club, a studio of tanning trades, a choir studio, clubs "Great Politics" and "Health", a theatrical drawing-room, a musical salon, a computer class and many others. Israeli Ambassador to Russia Natan Meron will attend the centre's opening ceremony.
