Saratov Theatre receives USD 100 thousand from former YUKOS CEO

The Saratov Academic Theatre of Drama reports that it has received USD 100 thousand from former YUKOS CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The Culture Ministry said that the funds will be used to reconstruct the theatre building and create new plays, costumes and decorations. The theatre is celebrating its bi-centennial this year. Khodorkovsky promised to help the theatre during his visit to Saratov, which was completed two days before his arrest.

According to the Culture Ministry the regional budget has set aside approximately USD 420 thousand in the run up to its bi-centennial. The money will be used to reconstruct the inside of the theatre along with the first and second floor foyer and stage. New furniture will also be purchased for the theatre.
