Explosion in Grozny - 16 September, 2002

A bomb has exploded in central Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, as a passenger bus was passing. There are believed to be between 3 and 7 dead with around 21 injured.

It is believed that the bomb was intended to explode as a Russian military convoy was passing but the timing was faulty and it victimised a passenger bus instead.

This attack comes at a time when the Georgian government of Eduard Shevardnadze proves incapable, or unwilling, to clamp down on the Chechen terrorists operating from Georgian territory, despite the fact that the Georgian army is being trained and equipped by the United States of America.
