Bridge collapses in Kaluga over heavy rains

In Kaluga, a bridge over the Kievka river collapsed because of heavy rains. The bridged connected the city center with Turynino neighborhood - home to about 20,000 people.

Emergency and rescue services said that it was the pedestrian area of the bridge that collapsed, as well as the fencing, the left lane of the road surface and the inside of the bridge. The incident left no victims.

Traffic has been blocked; public transport can reach the Turynino neighborhood  only on the bypass road.

Heavy rains are said to be the most likely cause of the incident.
