Russian Transport Minister's visit to Far East to start in Khabarovsk

Russian Transport Minister Sergei Frank started his working visit to the Russian Far East on Saturday in Khabarovsk, RIA Novosti learned at the press service of the Russian President's plenipotentiary in the Far East federal district.

The main topic of the session the minister will hold today together with plenipotentiary Konstantin Pulikovsky, as well as of working meetings, is road construction in the region and preparations to open thoroughfare on the 2,165-km highway Chita-Khabarovsk that is now under construction. It will for the first time connect some villages and towns of the Far East that have never before had motor service between them. The opening is scheduled for autumn 2003, while the construction is to be fully completed by 2008.

The highway under construction is to become a key link in the regional transport system, as it will connect Siberia, the Maritime territory, Yakutia and Magadan, Pulikovsky believes. It will allow integrating the Far East in the Russian single transport system, as well as to include Russia in the world system of transport communications.

The work is being conducted in compliance with the national programme titled "Roads of Russia in the 21st century" and is related to the development of the transcontinental latitude highway, the so-called Second Pan-European transport corridor "Paris-Berlin-Moscow-Vladivostok".

More than 5.8 million people voted for Nicholas Maduro at the presidential election in Venezuela. This is more than a quarter of registered voters. Why did those people vote for the man, who, as Western media write, took Venezuela to the brink of collapse?
