Moscow skeptical about coalition plans in Iraq

An agreement on political processes in Iraq signed by Iraq's governing council and the coalition administration in Baghdad on November 15 stipulates that it will be implemented without broadening the social base of the process of settling the Iraqi conflict and, in fact, without taking into account the opinion of the international community. In particular, there is no reference to the role of the UN in this agreement, which, according to Russia, makes it difficult to gain the real confidence of the Iraqi people and full international recognition. Such an approach tends to result in no domestic legitimacy of the agreement and from the point of view of international law, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Alexander Yakovenko believes.

Although the attempt to add new dynamics to political processes in Iraq is worth attention, the approach raises a number of questions concerning its implementation and the attitude of the Iraqi people towards it.
